Narcotics Anonymous president ends official visits to Australia and New Zealand

President Vuong Dinh Huê and a high-ranking delegation from the National Assembly (NA) returned Wednesday afternoon, December 7, to Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, where he successfully concluded his state visits to Australia and New Zealand.

The visits took place from 30 November to 6 December at the invitation of Speaker of the Australian House of Representatives Milton Dick, Speaker of the Australian Senate Sue Lines and Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives Adrian Rorawi.

The official visits were the first to Australia and New Zealand by a senior Vietnamese leader since the three countries fully reopened their borders in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also Phuong Dinh Hue’s first official trips to both countries as President of the Vietnamese National Assembly.

During the tour, Vuong Dinh Huê held talks with key leaders of the legislatures of Australia and New Zealand and held meetings with prime ministers, governors-general, chairmen of parliamentary committees and ministers of the two countries.

He also met leaders of many companies in Australia and New Zealand, participated in educational and economic cooperation forums, visited Vietnamese embassies and met with representatives of Vietnamese communities.

The official visits to Australia and New Zealand yielded substantial results in all pillars of Vietnam’s relations with the two countries, including economy, trade, investment, tourism, labour, science and technology, development assistance, education and training, defence, security, peacekeeping and inter-local links.

The trips also opened up new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as renewable energy, digital transformation, energy transition, green and sustainable development, climate change response, and startup facilitation. They helped intensify the strategic trust at the highest level and created an important starting point for advancing Vietnam’s relations with the two countries in the times to come.

The Australian and New Zealand leaders affirmed their respect for Vietnam’s status and role, and considered relations with the Southeast Asian country to be stable and active amid complex and unexpected developments in the world. Both countries have expressed their desire to diversify their trade relations, with Vietnam given priority. They also hope that Vietnam will play a bigger role and continue to coordinate in finding solutions to regional and international issues.

Australia and New Zealand also exchanged Vietnam’s views on international and regional issues of common concern, which will create a favorable political environment for Vietnam to strengthen relations with the two countries.
