Mercedes-AMG-GT, the GT is more versatile
New – With access to the all-wheel drive system and the 2 + 2 architecture, the second generation of the AMG super sports car broadens its target.
Still designed in-house in Affalterbach, the second generation of the sports coupe Mercedes The AMG-GT evolves much more than its silhouette would like to suggest. In nine years, the lines have kept the same look with the tailgate and front infinity hood but the shapes are more aggressive. The front end adopts the massive AMG grille, which is crossed by vertical bars and air intakes at the ends. Aerodynamics were of particular interest, benefiting greatly from the competition’s contribution.
The aerodynamic front lip, sills, rear diffuser and rear spoiler with five positions depending on gear position and speed work together to bring the car to the ground. The new generation of the AMG-GT clearly benefits from an extended wheelbase of 2.70 metres, while the length is increased by 180 mm to reach 4.72 metres. The new coupe has been widened by 50mm to 1.98m and increases by 70mm in height (1.35 instead of 1.28m). The result: the AMG-GT will be able to pass the coupé version of the AMG-SL launched last year with which it shares many technical elements, in particular the aluminum platform. The coupe is 20 mm longer than the roadster, but also wider. Like the SL, the GT will seat four. Admittedly, the rear seats are part of the optional software and are really just troubleshooting.
With the SL, the GT also shares the passenger compartment and in particular the dashboard and in particular the digital instrument display and the central vertical shelf containing the multimedia system.
Under the hood, unsurprisingly, we find an AMG twin-turbo 4-liter V8. It is available in two versions: the AMG 63 with 585 hp and the AMG 55 with 476 hp, both linked to the AMG 9-speed automatic gearbox. These two versions reach 100 km / h in 3.2 seconds and 3.9 seconds, respectively. Mercedes announces a weight of 1,970 kilograms for its new sports car that receives as standard the first, 4Matic + all-wheel drive, all-wheel drive.
Launched in the first half of 2024, the new AMG Coupé has gained versatility, clearly targeting Porsche 911 customers. The two booster seats can be flipped with a button to increase the load volume.
