Max 1100 GPU for data center, Intel adopts 12VHPWR connector
New MosulThe 16-pin PCIe Gen5 power supply also known as 12VHPWR is finding its way into professional Intel graphics cards.
This 12VHPWR connector is “technically” not a requirement for an ATX 3.0 power supply. However, the next generation of ATX 3.0 power supplies, such as Dark Power 13 are quiet! It has this connector for at least one graphics card.
Nvidia is the first manufacturer to tap it with their latest GeForce RTX 40 series.
While waiting for a compatible power supply, connections go through an adapter that uses three 8-pin PCIe (RTX 4080 16 GB) or four 8-pin PCIe (RTX 4090).
Its ability to deliver up to 600 watts seems to interest Intel who adopted For its new graphic solutions for servers, the Max 1100 series built on the “Ponte Vecchio”. This graphic architecture will be deployed through various interfaces such as OAM or PCIe. Cards using PCIe are equipped with a 12VHPWR connector.
It will remain an Nvidia exclusive until January 2023, when Intel plans to release the Max 1100 PCIe series. In terms of consumer offering, the GeForce RTX 40 series will remain unique to this connector given that AMD has adopted classic 8-pin PCIe for the next Radeon RX 7000 series.
