Marypoix. The college’s “Zilluminés” club includes science
During the three days of the Science Village, 21 students from the school’s science club presented their project on the topic of thunderstorms.
Twenty-one students in fifth and fourth grades from the college’s science club chose to name their group “Les Zilluminés.” A name chosen to demonstrate their taste for science. The students, under the supervision of Claire Carlier and Catherine Mathieu, professors of physical sciences and Sylvie Le Park, laboratory technician, participated last week in the 31st edition of the Fête de la science, themed under the theme of global warming. An event that took place in Forges de Pyrènes.
“This year, the students in the group are really excited! They really committed themselves to the project, which was prepared in advance, in just one month! They did the necessary research, made their presentations, then learned their interventions and practiced speaking to overcome their shyness.. We formed three groups of Seven students each attended one of the three days of the “Science Village,” in each group some students introduced and visited the other, then reversed. Classes 4ème2, 4ème4 and 4ème5 came to visit the village on Thursday,” explains Claire Carlier.
“It was really a pleasure to be supervising them, while preparing their stand on the topic of storms. They worked relentlessly and regularly, and it was great to see their seriousness and investment. I was amazed at how easy they were to speak in front of them!”, adds Catherine Matthew.
“I really appreciate their help preparing the podium, there was real interest and they asked me a lot of questions, especially about my training,” explains Sylvie Le Park.
The general opinion is that the students had a great day and they all want to repeat the adventure next year. “I had a little pressure to sit on the podium and speak in public, but we trained well and once we started, we weren’t afraid anymore,” Baptiste testifies. “I found it very exciting to be able to share our work with other students, especially younger ones,” explains Lily Marie. Jolie added, “I really liked the idea of explaining thunderstorms, but I also enjoyed going to see all the stands and discovering the other projects!”
“It was a great day, a great experience and we learned a lot!” Luanne and Auror concluded.
