Marvel’s Avengers: Developers talk about a rugged start
In September 2020, Square Enix and development studio Crystal Dynamics, popular for the “Tomb Raider” series, released the “Marvel’s Avengers” multiplayer action title. However, the game had to struggle with problems from the start and very few players were able to impress completely.
After Crystal Dynamics celebrated huge success with the 2013 “Tomb Raider” reboot and “Rise of the Tomb Raider”, expectations for Marvel’s Avengers were very high. After all, you can slide into superhero roles like Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hulk, Black Widow, and Ms. Marvel with friends and give you bad guys on your nose.
More humble, more ambitious, and more motivated
In an interview with Game Informer, Crystal Dynamics studio president Scott Amos confirmed that the developers are proud of their success with “Marvel’s Avengers,” even if the game is currently in a difficult phase. However, my rough start also taught me humility. In addition, it listens closely to players’ comments and faces complaints and criticism, while also searching other releases like “Destiny” and “Anthem” to learn from their initial problems.
“We are listening. We really do. We hear what it says. We hear what the press is saying what the media are saying. Our job is to take all of this and address it.” Amos said: Good and bad, and we’re going to say, “How do we use this to modify our philosophy?” We faced all the challenges that Everyone has had to overcome it by working from home over the past year. We haven’t done this before. Sure, we never released a game like this and then realized how hard it was to publish such a game, but also to support it after that. Everything takes three or four times longer. “

Of course, Amos is addressing the limitations that the pandemic has imposed worldwide since the early 2020s. With the home office, all development processes take longer, which further complicates the introduction of new content and improvements at a familiar pace. It took Crystal Dynamics several months to adapt to the conditions.
Finally, Amos assured that the developers want to make “Marvel’s Avengers” a game that “wants and deserves the fans”.
