Magnitude 7.0: An earthquake hits the northeastern islands of New Zealand
An earthquake measuring 7.0 on the Richter scale has struck uninhabited islands in New Zealand.

Wellington A violent earthquake occurred Thursday afternoon (local time) near New Zealand’s Kermadec Islands. The US Seismological Observatory estimated the magnitude of the quake at 7.0. According to information, the earthquake occurred at a depth of more than 22 kilometers in the sea.

There was no tsunami warning. The island chain, which has belonged to New Zealand since 1887, is about 1,000 kilometers northeast of the Pacific Ocean state. The Kermadec Islands are uninhabited.
