Lyon presents itself as the European challenge and its first major title

Lyon 12-30 Toulon
Lyon: b. Quillod (8), penalty attempt (46), b. Brassie (48)
Toulon: B Siren (17), Colby (74)

LOU won its first major title in its history! This Saturday at the Orange Velodrome in Marseille, Pierre Mignone’s men won the Challenge Cup at the expense of RCT (30-12). A deserved success, as Lyon dominated the final match from the first minute to the eighty minute.

From the start, Lyonnais announced the color and believed to score after 50 seconds of play, but Couillod’s test for the Taufua striker was denied in the event (first). Both groups are very effective in these first minutes and therapists must intervene several times to treat the first sores. Offensively, it was Lyon who shot first at the Stade Velodrome, who are overwhelmingly in Toulon. Jordan Taofoa catches up and takes advantage of a 22-metre loss from Baresi to replace Queilwood on the first attempt of the match (eighth). To be imitated a few minutes later by Toulonnais Baptiste Serin making the difference with a superb penetration of a full axis before sealing on the right wing after an excellent work from the attackers to equalize (17)

The second part of this first chapter features more waste from both compositions. Lots of forward passes and uneasy but regional dominance in favor of LOU. The Rhodians even got within the widening gap of the siren, but Georgian winger Davit Nyashvili touched the dead ball line with his left foot before flattening. The test was logically rejected.

On his return from the locker room, Les Gones makes the difference forever. First on the penalty kick try to follow the voluntary striker from Emeric Locke (46). Then after two minutes with a test in good and deserved form this time Pierre-Louis Brassy signed. In an excellent job by Tuisova on the right wing, Berdeu managed a runaway pass with his perfect foot to his three-quarters quarterback which ended (48). Within two minutes, Lyon signed 14-0 to their opponent, who will not recover. The rider doubled the lead shots near Lyon’s goal but they methodically faced tackles and scrapes from the Rhone.

You have to wait 74e Minute to see Chaselyn Colby launch the Rebellion with this test at the end of the line on the right wing. Too late reaction from Frank’s great men who wouldn’t make their Lyon counterparts hesitate. LOU finally won 30-12 and won the first title in its history, out of the D2 Championship. For Toulon it’s 4e Defeat in 4 Challenge Cup Finals after 2010, 2012 and 2020.
