“Language of the Sea and the Bretons”, an exciting and accessible exhibition at Espace Tissier du Conquet – Le Conquet

Bernard Justin, former vice president of the Brest Skid Association, presents this informative and engaging fifteen-section exhibit designed by him in partnership with cartographer Mikael Bauduret. This exhibition was initially produced for the Brest Maritime Festival 2016 and beautifully illustrated, and has since been circulating from site to site. Easily accessible to beginners and well-documented enough for more experienced British speakers, it lists the various sea-related records, accessed through the prism of the Breton language. The presentation reveals the multiple connections between the Breton languages, French, English… as the audience is immersed in history over the course of world discoveries and other structural realities of our culture. We find there the elements of almost childish delight so well integrated that we forget that they came from Breton. In short, this show is fun.
