Keys to hiring a foreign worker before July
With New Zealand in dire need of skilled labor since the start of the COVID crisis and border closures, accreditation applications for employers wishing to hire one or more foreigners will open in May and become mandatory from July 2022.
Announced during 2021, this new rule means that from 4 July 2022, all New Zealand employers wishing to hire migrant workers must be approved by New Zealand immigration. For foreign workers, this means that they will only be able to work for companies that benefit from this accreditation.
New recruitment process in 3 steps
The new work visa application process will now depend on your employer status. The system will display Three stages of control Before an employer can hire a migrant worker.
New Zealand immigration also offers a new visa Approved Employer Work Visa (AEWV) which will replace six existing temporary work visas.
Keys to hiring a foreign worker before July
If you are a business owner, you should know that you still have a few months to hire “skilled workers” from abroad without declaring or proving that there are no New Zealand citizens or that your company is accredited. A real boon for candidates but especially for companies. We present to you the three main criteria that must be met to be eligible:
- A job that pays 1.5 times the median salary ($84,240 per year or $40.50 per hour);
- A job lasting more than 6 months and at least 30 hours per week;
- A migrant worker who can prove that he or she has the necessary experience/qualifications.
This opportunity is valid until July 2022 only. Since when, the employer must be certified!
