James Cameron: Are you kidding?
I always say winning is better than not winning. But how can you even compare a masterpiece like Avatar to something like Tar? Who judges which of the two films is better? This is ridiculous. But my movie won an Oscar, “Tar” won none at all. That’s what matters.
The Academy Awards ceremony is a far cry from reality. Real fans like “Avatar: The Way of Water” haven’t had a chance there for a long time, so what am I doing at the Oscars? Tom Cruise wasn’t there either, good fellow. I mean, practically, I memorized cinema on my own, and what is the academy’s thanks? With every damned movie I get fewer nominations, this time they didn’t even nominate me for Best Director. What, in fact, do they think such a $250 million adventure is a phase of time?
But then seven Oscars for “Everything Everywhere at Once.” Is this a joke? Sure, my budget was only 10 times bigger than theirs, but Avatar: The Way of Water was still twice as gross as a movie for these bad guys. They more or less made the effects themselves, but you can see that. Perfection is different. For me, only the highest quality counts, and unless you get hit by a cement truck, it stays that way.
I see a lot of really smart and talented filmmakers who can’t do complicated things. This gives me a tactical advantage. And difficulties only attract me. Difficulties are a magnet for me. I have also been a vegetarian for a long time. Nothing enters my body any animal, absolutely nothing. Today I am healthier than ever, and no one can keep up with me.
I grow hemp and organic vegetables on my huge farm in New Zealand. Sure, I get a little lonely in there, but I don’t mind because I don’t have any friends anyway. You see, I can be sarcastic too! So I’m vegan, but because that still pisses me off, I’m calling it something else: I’m Futurevore. This means that I eat the way people will eat in the future – but now, just not when our beautiful planet is being destroyed. For the next few years, my focus will be on saving the planet. No, not the Earth. I’m saving Pandora.
Author, director and producer James Cameron, born in 1954, has been nominated for four Academy Awards with his latest epic “Avatar: The Way of Water.” The film won Best Visual Effects. Cameron himself stayed away from the award ceremony. Sympathetic jellyfish Aurelia was able to hear his thoughts at Cameron’s farm in New Zealand.
