Paper Mario: The Millennium Door was released today on Nintendo Switch and is already being dissected by players. 4K for the next Switch? It is also not certain

Such a discovery is exciting: the first shortcut we can find is to say that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door appears to have been planned for 4K at some point. However, the current Nintendo Switch is not natively compatible (naturally one might argue) with such a resolution. Then we immediately think of Nintendo's next console, which was recently officially announced by the company's president himself. Two weeks ago, Shuntaro Furukawa announced :

This is Furukawa, the president of Nintendo. We will make an announcement regarding the Nintendo Switch successor during this fiscal year.

The successor to the Nintendo Switch is already here, but it will be a while before we get our hands on it. The announcement is only scheduled for the current fiscal year (which ends April 30 in Japan), and by no means guarantees the new console will launch immediately. In the same way, today it is also not certain that the little sister of the Switch can display 4K natively. The discovery shared above will only make it easier to port many 4K games to another console… but not necessarily the next one coming out.
