Is it possible to temporarily stop artificial intelligence?

Disruptions are already here, as we’ve seen with ChatGPT in schools, or with virtual assistants in our phones.

Last May, the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Energy commissioned the Quebec Innovation Council to initiate collective reflection on the ethical and responsible development of artificial intelligence in Quebec.

But is it (really) realistic to regulate AI? Isabelle Bourgogne talks about this with:

The discourse here, unlike in Europe, is very enthusiastic and economical. A lot of money is invested in these technologies and we still talk little about regulation or what happens to our personal data.

Can we really put AI on hold while we better regulate these technologies? What is the role of politics in these calls for a moratorium? What can and cannot be regulated in this broad group that falls under the heading “artificial intelligence”?
