In the field of action cameras, if GoPro and DJI are particularly successful, Insta360 will not be left out. The Chinese brand, which specializes in 360-degree cameras, is becoming more and more diverse. After releasing its first webcam, the Insta360 Link, last year, the manufacturer unveiled a new classic action cam, the Insta360 Go 3, on Tuesday.

As its name suggests, the Go 3 is behind the Insta360 Go 2 that was launched in March 2021. Like the previous model, it is a small action camera with the advantage of compactness and unity. Concretely, like what DJI has been able to offer with Action 2, we are therefore entitled to have a camera module that is distinct from the screen module. It is then possible to attach the camera very simply and lightly, or to have a larger unit, with screen and battery, into which the camera is clipped.

In terms of features, the camera alone weighs just 35g, can shoot on its own for 45 minutes and is IPX8 certified, therefore, resistant to surface immersion. It also benefits from a wide-angle lens equivalent to 11.24mm at f/2.2 and can capture images at up to 2560 x 2560 pixels.

For videos, Insta360 advertises support for up to 2.7K (2720 x 1536 pixels) at 30p. However, slow or fast modes are offered in 1080p. Insta360 goes as far as trying to woo professionals with Standard, Vivid, and Flat color profiles for easy color grading. Note however that only h.264 is supported in terms of video codec.

A very modular action camera

The Insta360 Go 3 also includes 32, 64 or 128 GB of internal storage, and the choice of storage will be even more important since the camera does not benefit from storage expansion by microSD.

Where the camera stands out from competing models, as we’ve seen, is its modularity. In addition to the optional Action Pod – which includes a rotating display and increases autonomy from 45 to 170 minutes – it is possible to attach it to various supports, including magnetic ones, to fix it around the neck.

Insta360 Go 3 is already available. The base model, with camera alone and 32GB of storage, is offered at €429.99. However, it will be necessary to calculate 469 euros for the working set with Action Pod and up to 582 euros for the cycling set with camera in 128 GB version, Action Pod and other accessories.
