In Malawi, Vice President Saulos Chilima's plane disappeared

The Malawi government announced that a military plane carrying Malawi's Vice President, Saulos Chilima, had disappeared after the plane failed to land on Monday morning, June 10. The plane, which took off shortly after 9 a.m., was carrying the 51-year-old vice president and nine others.

“All efforts by air authorities to contact the aircraft since it left the radar have failed at this stage.”The government said in a press release. President Lazarus Chakwera called on regional and national powers to implement “Instant searches to locate device”according to the press release.

In 2022, Saulos Chilima was suspended from office after being arrested and tried on corruption charges as part of a scandal involving an Anglo-Malawian businessman. In May, a court in Malawi dropped the charges after several hearings in the presence of Mr. Chilima.
