He is summoned to court on charges of driving without a license, and attends the hearing remotely… behind the wheel of his car
“Negligence” that costs him dearly. After being put on trial for driving without a license on May 15 in Michigan, Corey Harris had the strange idea of projecting himself into his remote hearing via Zoom from the car he was driving, the channel reported. Fox 2 Detroit.
Unable to believe his eyes, Cedric Simpson, the judge in charge of the case, immediately asked him if he was driving the car. Clearly very relaxed and not realizing the huge mistake he was making, the forty-year-old told him he was going to park his car. “Actually, I'm coming to my doctor's office,” he answered very calmly, while maneuvering, before asking her to wait “a second.”
As much as he was amused and surprised by the situation, the judge then asked him if he was actually standing, and the accused answered in the affirmative with great enthusiasm. Without even responding to Corey Harris' lawyer, who asked the judge if it was possible to postpone the hearing for a few weeks, the latter summed up the situation. “Maybe I don’t understand anything,” he said in astonishment: “This is a driver whose license has been suspended and he was driving.”
He was imprisoned the same evening
Attorney Natalie Butt confirms these accusations to her client, who remains speechless and does not seem to understand the situation. “The defendant's bail has been revoked in this case. The defendant must self-report to the Washington County Jail by 6 p.m. today. The judge concludes that failure to do so will result in the issuance of a no-bail warrant.”
The defendant then said, “Oh my God,” and seemed to finally understand what was happening to him after this sentence was announced. Her lawyer told Fox2 that she “strives to live in a world where people are not imprisoned for non-violent crimes,” without commenting further.
according to telegraphCorey Harris was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail that same evening, before being released on bail. Its next session is scheduled to be held on June 5.
