Google is going to remove this frustrating limitation from Google Maps with Android Auto

Android Auto has largely imposed itself on car screens, in front of car manufacturers’ cumbersome operating systems. Only Apple’s CarPlay can eclipse Google’s Remote App Viewing system. It must be said that the two enemy brothers have been able to meet the needs of simplicity of operation and interface that motorists want.

Google Maps on your smartphone and in Android Auto at the same time

But maybe excessive simplicity kills simplicity? For years, Android Auto drivers have been complaining about the impossibility of displaying Google Maps on their smartphones once they display the route in Android Auto. However, the “full” Android version of the app includes many more features than the Android Auto version, for example, it provides more data about the destination as well as a user-customized list of places. Android Auto is very limited.

When trying to launch the app on the smartphone, an error message appears stating that it cannot be opened because Google Maps on Android Auto is running. The search engine corrects the problem. Users can already use the app on both media (smartphone and car screen) since version 11.67.0701 of Google Maps.

However, not everyone has been affected by this novelty yet. It’s possible that Google is testing the feature, or it’s a bug but it would be a shame to deprive users of it (especially after it’s activated for a few of them!). No doubt, the positive reception of this job will encourage the company to spread it more widely.
