France wins and qualifies for the quarter-finals.. Relive the last group football match at the Paris 2024 Olympics
The Blues had to avoid going off the rails at home. They did just that on Wednesday, July 31, against New Zealand. Herve Renard's men won 2-1 against the Football Ferns. And qualified for the quarter-finals against Brazil. Far from being reassured from the start of the competition, they ended up finding a solution to their problems so that they would not be one of the four teams (out of 12) eliminated from the group stage.
Reassuring blues. Their level of play has raised doubts in recent matches. This performance against New Zealand, who are certainly weaker, should be reassuring. But the Blues are still not secure in conceding a goal, and have shown a certain lack of attacking quality at times.
Katoto up. If there was one performance to remember on July 31, it was Marie-Antoinette Katoto. The Paris Saint-Germain big man scored two goals. She has scored five of France's six since the start of the Olympic tournament.
Is Karshawi injured? The black spot this evening, Sakina Karchaoui, the author of a great match, left the field at the end of the match, apparently injured in the back of her left thigh.
