Formula E – da Costa wins in Monaco, and Stoffel Vandoorne retires
(Belga) Portuguese Antonio Felix da Costa (DS Techeetah) won the Monaco e-race, the seventh round of the Formula E World Championship, the electric one-seat championship, on Saturday. Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ) has been forced into retirement.
Starting at 15th on the net, Stoffel Vandoorne slipped to the last spots on the first lap after getting involved in a collision. The Belgian driver finally retired 4 minutes into the end. From first place, da Costa won after overtaking New Zealander Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing) on the final lap. Evans also overtook Robin Friens (Invision Virgin Racing) in the final meters and finished third. Thanks to this second place, Frijns leads the championship with 62 points, 5 points behind compatriot Nick De Vries (Mercedes-EQ), who did not finish the race. Evans (54 points) is third, ahead of Da Costa (52). Vandoorne (48) fell from second to sixth, overtaken by Britain’s Sam Bird (49). Formula E will now head to Mexico, where the eighth and ninth rounds of the season will be held in Puebla on June 19-20. (Belga)
