Friday, February 24, Facebook and Instagram launched their first paid subscription service for a week, called “Meta Verified.” Meta, the parent company of the two social networks, is testing users’ willingness to pay for features that were previously free. This feature is reminiscent of the paid subscription implemented by Twitter at the end of 2022.
The service costs $11.99 (€11.30) per month for online users and $14.99 for those using the mobile apps. From Friday, Australian subscribers who present an official ID will be able to request a blue badge, a guarantee of authenticity, which will protect them against any risk of identity theft, the company confirms.
VIP Service
This new feature aims to enhance the authenticity and security of our services.Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a statement. Crucially, the move also provides Meta with a way to earn more revenue from its 2 billion users.
Experts say the growing army of influencers who make a living online may be the number one customer base for its paid services. Jonathan Hutchinson, Lecturer in Internet Communication at the University of Sydney, kind of pointed this out VIP service Maybe “A very interesting show for a content creator”. However, the Meta has often cautioned against testing new, sometimes risky models, only to give away what doesn’t work.
