Eurovision: With its knowledge, the candidate from Macedonia is causing controversy in spite of herself
The 22-year-old singer had an unfortunate gesture during the photo session at Eurovision 2022, on Sunday, May 8. The gesture was described as “disrespect for a national symbol”.
The Macedonian candidate for Eurovision 2022 has certainly not measured the scope of her gesture. On the evening of Sunday, May 8, during the opening ceremony of the music competition, Andrea Kojewska took part in a photo session. But the 22-year-old singer who represents North Missedoni with her title CircleShe quickly got rid of her little flag.
Trouble, she didn’t hesitate to throw it away from the camera’s field, before resuming the pose with a smile. The filmed scene caused a scandal in North Macedonia. And MPT, which broadcasts Eurovision and supervises the candidate, demanded in a press release that it “apologize to the population” for this “scandalous situation”.
‘No intention to offend the nation’
The case could even take on an even greater dimension, because the press release states that with this gesture she “disrespected a national symbol, which is punishable by law.” Soon, the young singer apologized in a video posted by MPT. She shows in her hand the flag, and indicates that she “did not intend to offend her nation.” She would only respond to a paparazzi’s request to stand unknowingly, as determined 20 minutes.
