Donald Trump's team scuffles with Arlington National Cemetery
Arlington National Cemetery claims it had an altercation with Donald Trump's team during the former president's visit earlier this week, involving the unauthorized presence of a photographer employed by the Republican campaign.
Arlington National Cemetery, where American military heroes rest, reported on Wednesday, August 28, an “incident” with Donald Trump's campaign team during a trip the Republican candidate made earlier in the week.
The former US president visited the cemetery near Washington on Monday to attend a ceremony honoring the 13 soldiers killed during the US withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
But a scuffle broke out during this visit between Donald Trump's team, which was seeking to take photos of the event and the cemetery.
Prohibition of “activities related to political campaigns”
“We can confirm that an incident occurred and a report has been filed,” said an official at the cemetery, where some 400,000 veterans and their families and two U.S. presidents, including John Fitzgerald Kennedy, are buried.
“Federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities at military national cemeteries, including photographers, content creators, or anyone else engaging for the purposes of or in direct support of a partisan political candidate,” Arlington Cemetery details. The Republican nominee's entourage, who continues to criticize Democrats over the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan in August 2021, responded by sharing a press release in which the soldiers' families confirmed that the photographer's presence had already been “verified” by their sponsors.
