Dave Brailsford takes on a new role as Director of Sports at Ineos
Dave Brailsford has been appointed Director of Sports for Ineos, a role in which the veteran team manager will oversee the company’s operations in a wide range of sports, in addition to cycling.
Ineos Grenadiers The news was revealed on Friday afternoon, announcing that Brailsford will continue in his role as manager of the World Tours cycling team in addition to his new role.
Brailsford was linked for the role earlier this year, with speculation he could step down from former Sky team Ineos Grenadiers after 12 years in the job. Rod Ellingworth returned to the team last year and took on an expanded role as deputy, but Brailsford will continue to make decisions.
Ineos is a multinational conglomerate of chemicals, fuels and plastics, but in recent years it has expanded ownership and sponsorship of sports teams, from the cycling business to ownership of the OGC Nice football team and the Ineos Britannia sailing team. A stake in the Mercedes AMG Formula 1 team, and a performance partnership with the New Zealand rugby team.
Brailsford’s new role will see Brailsford oversee the entire Ineos sports organization, working across teams to help develop team collaboration and information sharing as the company seeks to “develop a performance agenda across all sports,” according to a team press release.
“For me, there is no more exciting place to be involved in global sport at the moment than Ineos because of the extraordinary talent pool between the different teams,” Brailsford said.
“I am very pleased to have this new opportunity to work with other team leaders to see how we can leverage this collective talent and develop a broader performance framework in the partnership.
