Covid, New Zealand closes borders until 2022 – beyond Modena
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern: The priority now is to vaccinate the entire population
Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s prime minister, has announced that the country’s borders will remain closed at least until the end of the year because the priority now is to vaccinate the entire population and keep economic activities open. BBC reports it.
New Zealand is one of the countries that has managed the coronavirus pandemic best, with just 26 deaths out of a population of just under five million people.
“We are simply not able to fully reopen yet,” Ardern said, speaking at a forum dedicated to “reconnecting New Zealand to the world.” The prime minister also predicted that when the country reopens next year, vaccinated travelers from low-risk areas will be able to enter without being quarantined, while other risks will have to isolate themselves or stay in quarantine for 14 days.
For years, Lapressa.it has been providing free and independent information to its readers without any kind of public contribution. Private advertising covers part of the costs, but it is not enough. That is why we ask those who read us every day, and who follow us, to make to us, if they think, a contribution based on their means. Even a small support, multiplied by the tens of thousands of Modenese and Emilia-Romagna who read us every day, is essential.
