Celebrity News: King Charles Wants to Travel to Australia in Autumn
Despite cancer treatment, the British monarch is planning a big trip. But his doctors are putting restrictions on it.
Britain's King Charles III is planning a major overseas trip despite his cancer diagnosis. Buckingham Palace in London announced that the king, 75, will travel to Australia and Samoa with his wife, Queen Camilla, 76, in October. He will skip a visit to New Zealand, even though he is head of state there as well as in Australia. His doctors have advised him to avoid such an elaborate itinerary at this time.
Ongoing cancer treatment
Charles, like his daughter-in-law Princess Kate, 42, is undergoing treatment for an unspecified cancer. After a period of rest, he is now travelling frequently again. In May, he travelled to France for the D-Day commemorations. Now comes a long-planned trip.
The palace said that in close coordination with the Australian and New Zealand Prime Ministers, and given the time and logistical constraints, it was agreed to schedule the trip to Samoa and Australia. In Samoa, Charles is also due to attend a Commonwealth meeting. As with all appointments, the schedule is subject to medical approval.
Members of the royal family have frequently visited Australia.
Royal trips to Australia are a tradition. Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II, has often been there. Charles has also visited the continent with his ex-wife, Princess Diana. His son Prince William, 42, was there with his wife Princess Kate, 42, as was his younger son Prince Harry, 39, with his wife Duchess Meghan, 42, who are now separated from the royal family and live in the United Kingdom.
