Canoe-Kayak Race: New Zealand's Lisa Carrington Wins Stunning Seventh Gold Medal

New Zealand Kayaker Lisa Carrington She won her seventh Olympic gold medal on Friday at the Vayres-sur-Marne Marine Park, taking the 500-meter two-seater kayak title tied with Alicia Hoskin.

After winning her first Olympic title in London in 2012 in the K1 200m, Carrington won gold (K1 200m) and bronze (K1 500m) in Rio, before completing a triple gold in Tokyo three years ago (K1 200m, K1 500m, K2 500m). For the 2024 Games, the native of Tauranga, in northern New Zealand, has two golds around her neck, winning the K4 500m on Thursday and the K2 500m on Friday, taking her total to seven Olympic titles.

On Saturday, she could join 35-year-old Birgit Fischer in the discipline pool with an eighth title, if she wins the K1,200m. She will face strong competition, notably from her compatriot Amy Fischer. A kayaker for East Germany, then for a unified Germany, Birgit Fischer is the third most successful athlete at the Summer Games, tied with German gymnast Isabel Werth and American swimmer Jenny Thompson, and behind Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina and American swimmer Katie Ledecky (9 golds each).
