The 2024 Olympic Women's Football Tournament kicks off this Thursday! Starting at 5:00 p.m., defending champions Canada will kick off Group A against New Zealand. Canada, who are in a group with France and Colombia, should start this competition well. Bev Priestman's team has everything it takes to go far in the 2024 Olympics, between Ashley Lawrence, Vanessa Gill, Jessie Fleming and Jordyn Huitema, there is talent on every line. The Canadian players have been building confidence in recent months. In their last 4 friendlies, they have won 3 and drawn 1. Notably, they have maintained their victories against Australia (1-2) and Nigeria (0-1).
Why not follow that up with another win against New Zealand, at the Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in Saint-Étienne? Their next opponent will struggle to shine in this very tough group. New Zealand have not been convincing in their build-up to the global event. They have failed to win in their last four meetings. Before drawing against Zambia (1-1), they lost twice to Japan (2-0 and 4-1). Clearly, this is not the best way to approach the 2024 Olympic Games, and Canada will try to capitalize on this by winning and above all improving their goal difference before facing France and Colombia.
