Blue hook should cost: Zuckerberg plans this on Facebook and Instagram – News – WDR – News
Meta wants to test an opt-in model for verified profiles on its two platforms, Instagram and Facebook, initially in Australia and New Zealand. Anyone willing to pay close to twelve dollars – currently just over eleven euros – a month should be better protected against fake profiles and get more customer support.
More reach and visibility
However, Mark Zuckerberg also admits that the reach and visibility of these accounts will increase. Tests in Australia and New Zealand will show how strong this preference can be. The company cannot yet say when the job will also be offered in Germany.
Meta makes a lot of money from advertising on social platforms. However, sales have recently fallen by four percent, which is clearly why new business models are needed. Subscription shall be available to individuals only and not to companies, and verification is done via ID. But if you already have a blue tick, you won’t have to pay anything in the future either.
Everything is as always for regular users
The offer should be of particular interest to influencers who want to make money with their content and therefore rely on significant reach. Nothing changes for “ordinary” users with the new functionality. A similar model has existed for German Twitter profiles for a few weeks. Here, too, preference is given to paying users when viewing their content.
