Currys PC World apologizes after gift cards are cleared

Currys PC World has apologized to customers after some saw hundreds of pounds accidentally wiped off their gift cards in a Black Friday rally.

The company saw a spike in demand that resulted in the site being completely unavailable for a while on Friday evening.

Customers reported seeing hundreds of pounds “cleared” of gift cards as they went out to purchase items.

Richard Langton, who had been hoping to purchase a laptop in sales, said he lost £ 450 after the money was withdrawn from his gift card, but the order was not fully processed.

He told the Palestinian News Agency: “When I submitted the request, a message appeared saying,“ The transaction cannot be processed, try again later. ”So I kept trying, and in the end, the site stopped for maintenance.

“When it finally got up and running again, I did the same procedure and when I entered my voucher code, I said I only had £ 5 to use, which means they took money for the merchandise and now I have no order or any money. We cannot afford to lose More than 450 pounds sterling. ”

A Currys PC World spokesperson told PA: “Due to the unprecedented number of customers shopping online through Currys PC World on Black Friday, our site has experienced a temporary interruption.

“Unfortunately, transactions made with gift cards have been affected. We will work to ensure that each customer affected by this issue is fully refunded as soon as possible. We apologize for this issue and understand that customers will be disappointed that they were not able to secure their products.”
