Every year, the city of Bergen (Norway) commemorates a tradition where the talents of pastry chefs are highlighted.
Christmas is truly everywhere in Bergen (Norway). Illuminated streets, decorations and everything is ready for the holiday. In the heart of the city is a gallery of which residents are particularly proud. It is the largest gingerbread town in the world with more than 2,000 houses and buildings decorated to the smallest detail. It’s enough to dazzle passing tourists. “It is much bigger than I imagined and every detail is amazing and beautiful.”– shouts the visitor.
The townsfolk sprung into action
To hold this exhibition, the city council invites city residents. In a town house, it’s a Christmas baking workshop. The dough is almost ready. “You need a drink, cloves, cinnamon.”This mother explains. The whole family is mobilized to prepare and make gingerbread houses. After Christmas, the gingerbread houses will be destroyed by children, as tradition dictates.
