Biebertal’s “Fellingshausen Traveling Foxes” had an exciting time in New Zealand, Singapore and Bali. The movie that was produced will be shown to the public today.

Beaver Valley (maf). She covered 3,900 km with three cars, eleven motorcycles and 42,000 km by plane, and all this in 27 days: bare numbers that only give an idea of the adventures behind them. This is also the case with the “Fellingshausen traveling foxes”, who have been traveling around the world for four decades. Her main destination this year was New Zealand, with stops in Singapore on the outbound trip and six days in Bali on the finale. Günter Rustler and his wife Rosi prepared everything again, taking into account the wishes of the participants. There were 25 people this time around, including new faces and not all of them just from Biebertal.

The stay in Singapore was to relax to break the long flight time to New Zealand. But even here, on this island and city off Malaysia, there was much for travelers to enjoy. From there it would reach Auckland in New Zealand, which the indigenous Maori call Otiora, meaning “Land of the Great White Cloud”. The Auckland skyline impressed with the 328-meter-tall Sky Tower, from which one can enjoy a magnificent 360-degree panoramic view at a height of almost 200 metres.

Coast winding

Then the motorbike ride continued along the jagged coast to the Coromandel Peninsula, 247 kilometers away. The hot water beach is popular here, where you can build your own hot water pool with a bucket and shovel when the tide is out. The next day we drove over 250km inland with a stop in Rotorua to visit the local geysers. The main destination was Taupo, as the route ran through the volcanic region and across the Forgotten World Highway to Stratford. With 150 vehicles per day, the main road is the highway with least traffic. There are also over 150 curves and a 180-meter single-lane tunnel. “An absolute dream for every motorcycle enthusiast,” says Günter Rustler. In general, New Zealand only has about 100 km of highways, the rest are country roads which allow for comfortable driving.

The next day we drove along the coastal road from Stratford to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, with a temporary detour for Mt Taranaki. This showed that the unexpected could also happen: the ferry was canceled to cross into the South Island without further ado, which the local TV station took as an opportunity to report on. After the TV team discovered the “German Bikers” they took the leading role in broadcasting.

Glacier Lake

Day 11 featured the route through magnificent mountains with over 180 curves to Greymouth. It was then 320 kilometers to Fox Glacier across the west coast to the glacier region to Matheson Lake. This was followed by a free day in Queenstown with all kinds of fun activities like jet boating, canoeing or bungee jumping. And also to one of the filming locations of the “Lord of the Rings” movies, After Heaven. Stops for the next few days were called Te Anau, Milford Sound, Dunedin, Mount Cook and Twitzel, until the last day in Christchurch. The motorbikes have now been returned and we have traveled to Bali to spend these days mainly on a beach holiday.

New Zealand was unique because it was so diverse and wonderful, and the people treated us with warm hospitality «This is the summary of the Rustlers, whose grandchildren Tom (20) and Jamie (17) have also been there. Anyone interested in learning more about the exciting journey is strongly encouraged to watch the travel documentary he created “New Zealand – The Most Beautiful End in the World”.
