Alex Ballou hits Rhode America twice

Alex Palou (Chip Gagnassi) received a double-hit at GP Road America on Sunday, which he won by capitalizing on a mechanical failure by Josef Newgarden (Penske) two rounds before, to take the championship lead on Saturday in Lake Elkhart, Wisconsin.

At the age of 24, Ballou, who plays Mexican Pato Award, American Colton Herta and Dutchman Rinus Vikai, the young generation ready to take power in IndyCar, claimed his second career victory after that at the Alabama Grand Prix at the start of the season.

This is the Spaniard flying away in the General, by displacing O’Ward (Arrow McLaren) who finished ninth.

Starting in fifth, he managed to climb up to three places, but he never worried Newgarden, who firmly dominated the race and promised to win.

But on lap 53, the American, the 2017 and 2019 championship winner, suddenly had a mechanical problem and was overtaken by Balu, as did eighteen other riders in the last two rounds. So frustrating for Newgarden who thought he would take his first win of the season, after taking second place in his second Detroit race last weekend.

Colton Herta (Andretti) finished second, ahead of defending champion Will Power (3rd, Pinsky) and New Zealander Scott Dixon (fourth, Chip Ggnassi).

Frenchman Romain Grosjean (Del Quinn), the great leader of the race, finished fifth, after great fights won by Graham Rahal (11, Rahal Letterman Lanigan) and Alexander Rossi (7th, Andretti).
