Airline Launches Special Flights for Taylor Swift Fans

While it's sad for New Zealand fans that superstar Taylor Swift won't be coming to New Zealand, Air New Zealand is happy to see it. Because they can now fly the so-called Swifties to Australia on special flights.

“They thank her for treating her fans with absolute loyalty, or even: cult-like worship,” the newspaper Die Zeit once wrote about Taylor Swift’s fans, who are called Swifties. According to media reports, the first Swifties are currently camping out at the concert site in Buenos Aires, Argentina, which will take place in November.

So it’s no surprise that Air New Zealand is now launching additional flights for Taylor Swift’s concerts in Australia in February 2024. Air New Zealand says it is offering 2,000 extra seats due to high demand. “This includes new return flights from Wellington, Christchurch and Auckland to Sydney and Melbourne, as well as additional seats on existing flights.”

Since everyone wants to attend the Mega-Star concert, the airline launches special flights.

The airline says it is naming some of the new flights NZ1989. Because 1989 is the fifth studio album – named after the year of her birth – by the singer, who did not come to New Zealand on her tour and thus led the Swifties to Australia.

“When Taylor Swift’s tour dates were announced last week, there was a ‘huge increase in demand,’” explains Leanne Geraghty, Air New Zealand’s sales manager. “More than 3,500 Kiwis booked flights to coincide with the concert dates.” That means extra business for the airline.

The trip might be expensive for Taylor Swift fans.

Air New Zealand is already preparing Swifties for the fact that the flight may not be cheap. “During times of high demand, prices are increased so that we can reserve a small number of seats for last-minute travel,” the airline said.
