Sept 12 (Reuters) – Pratt & Whitney’s maintenance of its rotorcraft fleet will have a significant impact on the company’s flight schedule from January 2024, Air New Zealand (AIR.NZ) said on Tuesday.
The warning comes after Pratt & Whitney’s parent company, RTX RTX.N, reported a series of durability issues in 600 to 700 of Pratt & Whitney’s Geared Turbofan engines and said it would need to remove them for quality inspection.
In July, RTX said a rare metal powder defect could cause some engine components to crack and ordered rapid inspections of 200 engines by mid-September.
The national airline said the problem will reduce engine availability and it will have to adjust its flight schedule in the coming months.
Pratt & Whitney added that the revised maintenance plan will be completed within the next two months.
The company added that the inspection did not reveal any safety concerns.
