Game news After waiting nearly 10 years, the temporary PS5 exclusive is finally back: why could Little Devil Inside be a gem?
Disappeared since 2021, Little Devil Inside is finally being talked about again, much to the delight of players. Why does this game promise to be a real gem?
We haven't heard from him in three years, and Little Devil Inside has reappeared as if by magic in a new trailer that offers a very engaging overview of its clearly massive content. If you've completely forgotten what it's about, it's an open-world survival game with RPG elements that was launched on a Kickstarter campaign by the Koreans at NeoStream at a time when Steam Greenlight was still popular, i.e. in 2015. The studio has particularly benefited from the great offer thanks to some PlayStation conferences, with which it has also signed a temporary exclusive contract, along with the originally planned PC release. If the premise of the game is still a mystery, it has already offered players a myriad of quests that are as epic as they are fun, set in cartoonish and adorable diorama-style settings. The focus was on “Live a real life in a surreal worldWhich could take 20 hours for the main plot but at least 100 hours to explore each developed content.
The game had suffered a small scandal a few years ago, as some netizens considered the design of minifigures similar to indigenous tribes from the African continent racist. But calm quickly returned when Newstream decided to rework its design, making it clear that the use of these stereotypes was not intentional: “The use of these racial stereotypes was completely unintentional. “We were not aware of the stereotypical connotations and would like to apologize to anyone who was offended by this character design.”. In response to public enthusiasm, Neostream announced the future availability of its game on Switch and Xbox One platforms. The wait was at its peak and we expected the release in 2022 but in the end, Little Devil Inside will share its latest news in 2021 before going completely silent until this week.
What does the trailer tell us?
The game takes place in an era somewhat similar to the Victorian era where humans and monsters coexist, and it is not without difficulty. Your character, a young man, perhaps an experienced explorer, is hired by a professor at the local university to investigate a range of paranormal phenomena and carry out dangerous missions. It's only six minutes long, The new trailer doesn't focus on any particular sequence, but instead opts to show a large number of shots, offering a brief but very tantalizing glimpse at the range of potential activities that will take place.s. Our little character gets off a quiet train in a very rural atmosphere, a large bag on his back heralding a stock. He is greeted by the stationmaster who welcomes him to Hamsville. And go to the Morris Family Pub, a discussion venue where our hero will likely develop great epics.
Accompanied by a neat design, the excerpt is also presented Absolutely fantastic map like large interactive model, where points of interest appear numerous. There are small forests where you will find wild plants, mushrooms, all kinds of herbs or even a few deer that you can hunt. Count also on the presence of a logging site, an abandoned mine where a ferocious bear awaits you, a barbecue, a farm full of sheep, a gas station for the maintenance of the cool little car that allows you to cross an enormous green space, and a shopping street that you will cross in a horizontal scroll.
A strange abandoned house where you will come across a table full of clues connected by the red thread, which also suggests that there is some intrigue to be solved, such as the examination of a corpse that will be carried out, or that creep scene in a gloomy dormitory setting that is strongly reminiscent of a sequence from Little Nightmares. Then, let's also mention the possibility of crossing desert, mountain, meadow, black forest and flaming sword battles. In short, there will be a lot to do in Little Devil Inside, that's for sure. Exploration, combat, quest, and survival seem to blend together into a very dense experience. A quick look at the first trailer posted in 2015 will give you enough perspective on the tremendous progress the studio has made.
Why did the game disappear?
Neostream began in 1998 as a multimedia company producing diverse content for a wide range of clients. “Although we had tried many game concepts in the past, it was always difficult to focus and invest all our energy into developing the game while taking care of the day-to-day business, which was no easy feat. We were running two studios in two different countries“, says the studio in a 2015 article on media 80.lv. At the time, there were only three of them: Cody Lee (Creative/Game Director), JJ Lee (Lead Programmer) and Jun Choi (Project Coordinator/Communications) . In nearly ten years, Neostream has evolved a lot, going from a small team to a corporation. In an open letter posted on their Kickstarter page a few hours ago (the first in three years, anyway), the studio wrote: “A lot of people have come and gone. People with respectable but different goals and pursuits.”. And to add:
In sharing these differences and ideas, we were sometimes influenced and influenced, and sometimes conflicted. We are responsible for our inability to accept these differences. And of course, we offer you our sincerest apologies.
Creative differences should have hampered Newstream, but it's now back to a smaller team, united around a shared vision. A quick look at the company's LinkedIn page shows that it currently has 45 employees. And to apologize to the community that has been eager to discover Little Devil Inside for so many years: He added: “We know that this does not and should not justify all the delays and lack of news, but we are still here, we were and always will be.”Also note that the studio is changing its game engine for the second time: Little Devil Inside was first developed on Unity, then Unreal Engine 4, then Unreal Engine 5.
There have been several images in this new trailer but at the moment, there is no release date or even a window. The studio simply subscribes to get “Release discussions have really begun, and once everything is clear, we hope we can answer any questions you haveLet's hope that after rebooting the device, communications about the game will become more frequent.
