A study reveals the most addictive video games
When playing video games reasonably, this is usually not a problem. Benefits for Psychological health The physical has even been observed through some studies. However, it can also happen that some players adopt problematic behavior and spend a lot of time on their favorite title, to the detriment of their personal and professional lives.
Hard-to-stop games
In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) concluded that Video game disorder is a disease. This disease also took effect at the beginning of the year. A new study by private rehabilitation clinic, Delamere, in the UK attempted to determine which games were more addictive for gamers.
For this, scientists selected about fifty games on Metacritic, and then ranked those that mentioned the word “addiction” in the reviews. This method can of course be criticized and this term is not necessarily seen in a negative way by all players.
Anyway, the authors were able to make the top 20 list here in order: Rocket League, Littlewood, Demigod, Stardew Valley, League of Legends, Frostpunk, Path of Exile, My Time At Portia, Fortnite, PlanetSide 2, Tom Clancy Rainbow Six: Siege, Dota 2, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Fallout 3, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Call of Duty Black Ops III, Smite, The Sims 4, Rust.
Quoting colleagues from 25entertainment.ie, Martin Preston, founder and general manager of the clinic, explains the reasons why these titles can be so addictive:
One of the most addictive game features is that many of them do not have a preset ending, which is most common in MMORPGs. This means that the player has not reached the point where they have “complete” each challenge or task, which puts the game at a natural end and allows them to move forward. Instead, they are presented with constant challenges and tasks that they have to overcome that keep them coming back again and again.
As in any practice, it is therefore important to know how to set limits that should not be crossed. Feel free to speak to a professional when you feel that you cannot break out of a particular dependency.
