SwissA scientific team on the energy crisis is “necessary”
The President of the Swiss Science Council believes that “in the event of a crisis, there is a lack of channels through which science can communicate directly with politics.”
Sabine Sustrink, president of the Swiss Science Council, said Wednesday in an interview with “Tages-Anzeiger”. Considering that in normal times politicians listen to the scientific world, she notes that “in a crisis there are no channels through which science can communicate directly with politics”.
For Sabine Süsstrunk, this energy task force “should not only deal with the technical and economic aspects” but should take into account the people and their acceptance of the actions taken.
Learn lessons from the pandemic
He calls for the lessons of the coronavirus crisis to be learned. The Covid crisis has taught us one thing: Even if we think we are well prepared for a particular crisis, a lot of unexpected things happen. For example, we have slowed down the spread of the virus. Above all, these preventive measures can have serious consequences.”
These consequences were in particular confinement and School closures. What if “the Covid Science Task Force has done an excellent job on medical, technological and economic issues, the effects on society – such as the impact of school closures on education, family life and mental health – not being adequately taken into account”, laments Sabine Sustrink.
