A quick look at the methods, finally available on Android and iOS

A useful feature but disabled by default

This feature prevents users from having to unlock their phone every time they want to check their route: navigation is therefore easier. It also allows you to follow your journey through the route overview, even without turning on turn-by-turn navigation, which can be useful for checking your route. If there is a deviation from the planned route, whether on foot, car or bike, Google Maps automatically suggests a new route and updates the corresponding overview.

After an announcement in June 2023 promising imminent rollout, we had to wait nearly a year for this feature to actually start appearing in Maps settings. The toggle to enable Fast Trends is rolling out globally, and will be available on all devices and verified user accounts in multiple countries.

To activate quick directions, you must access navigation settings via the profile icon at the top right of the screen. This function, despite its undeniable usefulness, is actually disabled by default, which may explain why many users are not aware of its availability. Once enabled, it should improve your driving experience as it reduces phone handling.

At-a-glance driving directions are available on Android, of course, as well as iOS where they find a home on the lock screen thanks to the Live Activity feature.
