A New Zealander turns into Superman to support cancer research
New Zealander John Nabbs walks across Canada to support cancer research. He started the race dressed as Superman in Saint John, New Brunswick and plans to finish it in Victoria, British Columbia.
He was seen on the highway in Regina, Saskatchewan, on Friday.
John Knaps only has a stroller that contains his personal belongings such as a tent, sleeping bag and clothes.
He says he’s trying to raise $60,000 to support the Canadian Childhood Cancer Foundation and the New Zealand Children’s Cancer Foundation.
The latter also goes to schools and especially to children’s hospitals to provide comfort to those suffering from cancer and waiting for treatment.
I just want to make sure I put a smile on their faces and support them through these difficult times.
says John Nabbs.
The New Zealander claims he lost his mother and father between 2020-2021 to cancer.
He adds that it was Terry Fox’s story that encouraged him to embark on this adventure in Canada.
I knew there would be sympathy for what I’m trying to do and what my family has been through
says John Nabbs. It is also the way for me to discover this wonderful country while providing a little relief to those who are suffering and raising funds.
He also says he has been touched by the support Canadians have given him throughout his challenge.
I already knew that Canadians showed great hospitality
says John Nabbs. But I didn’t expect them to be so supportive.
He adds that people following his journey on social media came to meet him in person when he arrived in their communities.
Despite the challenges he faces during this adventure, John Knaps remains motivated. He says he’s grateful for the mild weather, which he says makes his trip across Canada easier.
