The FIFA Women’s World Cup is currently causing a lot of changes in the ARD and ZDF programmes. Due to the time difference between Australia and New Zealand, games here are usually held early in the morning. For the broadcasters who broadcast ARD and ZDF in Germany, this has a significant impact on their programmes.
In the past few days, public broadcasters have repeatedly adjusted their programming around broadcasting the major sporting event. This will continue in the coming days.
Various programs on ARD and ZDF give way to football reports on Tuesdays. Here we have compiled a list of changes identified in the program.
ARD: The program changes on Tuesdays
On July 25, ARD will show three matches from the FIFA Women’s World Cup: Colombia vs South Korea, New Zealand vs Philippines and Switzerland vs Norway. All matches are preliminary round matches. Klaus Löven is a moderate from Hamburg, Nia Kunzer is the expert. In total, ARD shows two full games and one on this day between 7am and 12.15pm.

It also means that many of the programs that were created on Tuesday were either canceled or severely shortened. Then “Morgenmagazin” lasts only an hour and a half and ends after seven o’clock.
This is followed by a recap of the Colombia-South America match and, starting at 7.30am, the first half of the New Zealand v Philippines match. The “Tagesschau” actually runs on Tuesdays at 8:20 am instead of the usual 9 am immediately after the “Morgenmagazin”.
Starting at 8:25 am, the first will broadcast the second half of the New Zealand match, and starting at 10:55 am the match between Switzerland and Norway. The magazine “Live nach Neun” and the “Verrückt nach Meer” series are no longer available. Instead of “Masters of Everyday Life”, there will be another edition of “Tagesschau” at 10.50am.
The second half of the match between Switzerland and Norway starts at 10.55am. This means: viewers also have to tune in to Alexandre Bomis’ quiz show “Gefraget – Gejagt”, which usually starts at 11.15am on this day.
Telenovelas are business as usual
For soap fans, on the other hand, there is good news: after “Mittagsmagazin”, the program initially works as usual. “Red Roses” and “Love Storm” were not affected by the changes.
Since ARD and ZDF will continue to take turns broadcasting World Cup matches, everything will be back to normal on Wednesday. Then ZDF will broadcast the next matches of the World Cup.
