Jupiter on TF1 Séries Films: The Story of a Resounding Failure of the Matrix Directors

After Cloud Atlas, an oversized mural lasted about 3 hours jointly produced with Tom Tykwer, Lilly and Lana Wachowski in an exploration of the SF genre with Jupiter: The Fate of the Universe released in 2015.

The lead role is played by Mila Kunis, Jupiter Jones, a dreamy young woman who makes a living cleaning toilets her day.

Jupiter then begins to glimpse the fate that has always awaited her: thanks to her genetic fingerprint, she can take advantage of a wonderful heritage that can change the balance of the universe forever …

In 2015, science fiction only existed through the franchises of superheroes. Wachowski turned out to be one of the few projects that got off the beaten track.

Unfortunately, from advance work prediction, several of the directors’ supportive executives shut the door of Warner, the film’s producer.

Among them is Jeff Rubinoff, head of the studio. It is the latter that has significantly contributed to the success of Matrix. Warner departs before he begins photographing Jupiter, leaving the Wachowskis in a complicated situation. In isolation, they try as much as possible to implement the project.

In March 2014, the first forecasts returned to a disastrous ruling. Although the special effects are not finished yet, Warner panics and delays the release for seven months in the US, officially to improve post-production.

The studio doesn’t hesitate to inflate the film’s budget, but that won’t be enough to save it from drowning. Like John Carter, American critics expect a resounding failure of Jupiter, affecting viewers not to make it to theaters.

Furthermore, Channing Tatum and Eddie Redmayne are not involved in promoting the movie. However, the latter was in the limelight at the time for his performance in A Wonderful History of Time, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.

Jupiter landed in February 2015, and received disastrous press reviews. The box office result confirms the expectations: the fictional film, with a budget of 176 million dollars, won only 183 million worldwide, including 47 in the United States.

In France, the flagship film has struggled to reach 800,000 admissions. This massive failure leaves Speed ​​Racer and Cloud Atlas failures. Matrix 4, in theaters December 15, 2021, will it resurrect the Wachowski Machine?
