Vinci wins €305m road contract

French construction giant Vinci has won a €305 million contract in New Zealand, where it will build a series of bridges in the Auckland area, the group announced on June 30.

“New Zealand Transport Agency Waka Kotahi has awarded HEB Construction – a subsidiary of Vinci Construction in New Zealand – in consortium with Fulton Hogan, Aurecon and Tonkin + Taylor, the design and build contract for the Penlink project north of Auckland,” it said in a statement.

“The NZ$510 million (€305 million) project includes the construction of a new 7km dual carriageway, complete with a shared pedestrian and cyclist path, as well as the construction of six bridges, including the country’s first “extrassed” bridge,” Vinci continued. “Extradossed” bridges are a type of bridge whose structure relies on cables cast into the concrete of the deck and fixed cables attached to the towers.

The work should be completed in 2026, the group says.

In 2021, Vinci generated net profit of around €2.6 billion on a turnover of €49.4 billion. Just under $2.5 billion of turnover was generated in the Asia, Middle East and Rest of World region, which includes New Zealand.
