A new adaptation of the classic children's book: The little orphan girl Heidi lives with her grandfather Mohe in a wooden cabin in the Swiss mountains. She prefers to spend her time with her best friend Peter the goat. Together they herd goats and wander through the Alpine meadows and through the forests. However, one day Heidi's aunt Ditte shows up to take the girl to Frankfurt: there she is supposed to live with the wealthy Sissmann family and serve as a playmate for her daughter Klara, who is confined to a wheelchair. At the same time, she and Klara are supposed to learn to read and write with the strict governess Miss Rottenmeyer. It doesn't take long before Heidi and Klara become best friends and play many pranks on Miss Rottenmeyer. The kind Mr. Sissmann also takes the girl deep into his heart. However, Heidi longs for the mountains and for her grandfather to return.
