On the second day of Group A of the 2024 Olympic Women's Football Championship, New Zealand and Colombia have set a date. The match will be played on Sunday at 5pm at the Groupama Stadium in Dessin-Charpieu. Both teams need to open their account in this competition. Coming into the competition, New Zealand failed to achieve this feat against Canada, the reigning Olympic champions. The match started well, however, as they opened the scoring in the 13th minute, but the Canadians managed to turn the score around to win (2-1). The New Zealand players will have a hard time reassuring themselves in the upcoming meeting.
Colombia is the one who is putting themselves forward. The selection that had a lot to do for the first time in the 2024 Olympic Games, as they challenged France, the host nation. In the first half, the Colombian team had a hard time, as they were three goals down at the break. However, Angelo Marseille's players were able to return with much better intentions after the break. They clearly cast doubt on the Blues, as they returned to a small goal (3-2). Colombia will certainly have to do without one of their stars, Mayra Ramirez, who was withdrawn at the end of the match. Not to mention that Linda Caicedo seemed to be struggling in the final minutes. However, Colombia have shown that they are capable of competing with the big nations. They will have enough to achieve their first win against New Zealand, the cheapest selection in their group.
