France will meet New Zealand in the semi-finals.
The semi-finals of the U-20 World Championship will see France take on New Zealand in the second leg (the first leg was won by a single point on 4 July), then Ireland take on England on Sunday 14 July.
France booked their ticket to the semi-finals of the 2024 Rugby World Under-20 Championship with a 29-11 win over Wales in tough conditions at Athlone Sports Stadium.
With this result, combined with a bonus point, the Blues reached 11 points, securing their place in Group A, even before New Zealand beat Spain 45-13 in a match that was stopped at halftime. New Zealand qualified for the semi-finals as Group A winners, while France qualified as the best runner-up.
Due to heavy rain in the Cape Town area on Tuesday 9 July, the pitch at Athlone Stadium was inspected in consultation with organisers and match officials and declared unfit for play ahead of the first scheduled match at the venue between Ireland and New Zealand.
Both teams were awarded two points for the competition, which had the effect of Ireland qualifying for the semi-finals as winners of Group B.
England completed the semi-final draw after overcoming difficult conditions in Cape Town to secure a 17-12 win over South Africa in a late effort. Mark Mapletoft's side finished top of Pool C.
Earlier, Argentina kept their slim hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals alive by beating Fiji 52-12, while Georgia claimed their first win of the tournament by beating Italy 28-17.
