The Rugby World Cup is coming to an end. The highly anticipated Grand Final is set to take place on Saturday at 9pm at the Stade de France between New Zealand and South Africa. A must-see event from 8pm on Europe 1. Shocking, a replay of the 1995 World Cup Final, won by the Springboks, will have every rugby fan salivating.
It's a real clash of giants. New Zealand and South Africa, the two most successful nations in rugby history with three crowns each, meet on Sunday in the final of the 2023 World Cup in France. An event that will follow from 8pm on Europe 1. The All Blacks-Springboks also and above all represent the memory of an unforgettable final, the 1995 final in Johannesburg, which South Africa won in extra time. And on this Sunday evening, we expect once again an exceptional meeting.
The Springboks' first win in 1995.
Talking about New Zealand-South Africa is to delve into the history of rugby and the World Cup. Transport yourself to 1995, the first of three titles The Springboks are at home against the All Blacks. We also see Nelson Mandela present the Webb Ellis Cup to Francois Benard. South African fullback Willie le Roux was just six years old at the time. But he remembers the moment etched in his memory.
“I remember my parents screaming in front of the TV. I didn't really understand what was happening. But to get the chance to play in a final against the All Blacks is incredible,” he recalls.
“It's a big final”
The culmination of a rivalry that is now 106 years old, including the New Zealanders. “We all remember the 1995 final. It was tough. Hopefully it will happen again. It's a big final, that's for sure. But that's what a World Cup final is all about,” explains coach Ian Foster.
And so the spirit of revenge risks invading the Stade de France, the breath of the great evenings that mark the sport. The New Zealand-South Africa match represents more than just a final, it represents the history of rugby. History advances with a nation that will be, at the end of this duel, the most successful in the world.
