Education New Zealand and “Lifeswap” – the name of the German-New Zealand animated short film series – invite you to the premiere of “Group Effort: Study in New Zealand Without Mishaps” on 17 April 2018 from 11:30 am! Until 1:00 p.m. The New Zealand Prime Minister will make a cameo appearance and her partner, New Zealand TV presenter Clarke Gifford, will be present in person.

The event takes place at the “Hackesche Höfe” cinema, Rosenthaler Strasse 40-41, 10178 Berlin, and is free. Your physical well-being is provided by local dishes/snacks.

Education New Zealand is releasing a short film about an overseas adventure, produced in collaboration with German-New Zealand student duo Jörg and Duncan. The project called “Lifeswap” tells the life of German Jörg in New Zealand and Duncan in Germany.

The aim of the project as well as the screening of the cinema in Berlin is to raise awareness of New Zealand as an excellent educational country and to raise awareness of the cultural differences between the two countries in a humorous way.

The episodes not only show these differences exaggeratedly and with a lot of humor, but also display the communicative characteristics of both countries as well as some errors. In particular, Jörg's frankness and typical German habits were ridiculed. The viewer gains an insight into university life in New Zealand, which is characterized by flat hierarchies, caring professors and a strong team spirit. Strict and formal manners are very unusual for a Kiwi; This is also demonstrated by the short appearance (the sudden and very short appearance of a well-known person in a film) of Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, who will be in Berlin during the premiere of the meeting with the Chancellor.

Every year about 3,500 German schoolchildren and students move to New Zealand. In addition to the stunning landscape, the education system is one of the best in the world, as the Economist Intelligence Unit study showed.
