Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spoke today with New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon.
Prime Minister Trudeau congratulated Prime Minister Luxon on his appointment to the 42-year-old positionH Prime Minister of New Zealand. The two leaders stressed the close ties of friendship and great cooperation that unite Canada and New Zealand. They also highlighted the importance of continued economic growth that benefits everyone.
The leaders discussed areas in which they could intensify cooperation, especially as partners within the G5. In particular, they discussed efforts to promote peace and security and maintain the rules-based international order.
The Prime Ministers expressed their concerns about major global issues, such as the situation in the Middle East, including the Red Sea, and discussed de-escalation efforts. They also discussed their cooperation to support a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific region.
Prime Minister Trudeau highlighted Canada's work to promote genuine reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, accelerate the transition to clean energy and enhance the resilience of supply chains.
Prime Minister Trudeau and Prime Minister Luxon agreed to maintain their close cooperation in support of their shared priorities and to remain in regular contact.
