Free subscribers can access files from Freebox directly on their PCs and Macs

Your Freebox files are accessible on Windows and Mac for all Freebox subscribers. Here are the steps to follow.

Useful advice for many Freebox subscribers. If Free allows them to access their box’s connected or built-in hard drive storage via the Freebox Files mobile app, their ISP also allows access to recorded content directly via a PC or Mac.

To do this, it is necessary to configure Windows or Mac sharing on your Freebox operating system, the system interface of the Freebox operating system that allows you to manage your Freebox and much more from your Internet browser. This method also allows you to access your files outside your home. But how do we do that?

Enable file sharing from Freebox OS

First open your web browser and access the Freebox operating system by entering the address http://mafreebox.freebox.fr/. Then access Freebox Settings and Advanced Mode. Then you just have to go to Windows Shares or MacOS Shares. For this example, we will use a Freebox Delta server and a Windows PC. For Mini 4K, One, and Pop subscribers, you’ll need to connect an external storage medium if you want to take advantage of this option since these boxes don’t include a hard drive, unlike the Freebox Revolution.

The next step is to check the “Enable file sharing” box and verify it. You can even secure access by setting a password.

Access files from Windows Explorer

It’s time to access the files. All you have to do is open Windows File Explorer and click on the “Freebox Server” icon in “Network Locations”.

And quickly, you’re in your Freebox storage (the RAID of our Freebox Delta server, in our case). You can open, store or delete files as you wish. You can transfer others from your computer’s hard drive. We also added some files that instantly appear in the Freebox Files app on your Android smartphone.

If you want to save time next time, you can also create a shortcut on your desktop. From File Explorer, all you have to do is right-click on the Freebox Server icon and point to “Create Shortcut” to have a shortcut that is always just one click away.
