iOS 17: AirTag is shared between 5 people
AirTags can finally be shared between multiple people. Ditto for other tracking accessories compatible with Apple’s Find My network.
This is a possibility that was missing from Apple’s beacon launch two years ago. The ability for multiple people – usually family members – to share and access a tracker individually in their Locate app.
Personal example, a car that we use a bit and that is difficult to park in the neighborhood (we move around, turn around…). We ended up putting all of the AirTag inside to find it a few days later. The problem is, when one takes the wheel, the AirTag from the other rings and vice versa. Another scenario, you put an AirTag in a suitcase, but only one person in the family can follow it during the flight.
With iOS 17, an AirTag or other Find My compatible tracker can be used simultaneously by all five Family Sharing members or others outside the home. When you request a post, Locate is open to adding anyone from your address book.
It also means that if a post request is made without the consent of the other person, the latter will no longer receive follow up alerts…
