The Aristotelian physical description of planetary motion prevailed until the beginning of the seventeenth century. It was revolutionized by Galileo (1564-1642), a formidable scientist who touched any motor handicap.

During this conference, Jean-Marc Gelly will address two crucial phases in the history of kinesiology which will end with Newton’s publication of “Philosophiæ naturalis Principia mathematica” in 1687.
The physical description of everything related to the ‘fall of the bass’ and the motion of the planets remains very Aristotelian and therefore entirely fanciful until the beginning of the seventeenth century; It was revolutionized by a huge scientist who touched everything called Galileo (1564-1642).
The speaker will insist on the great contribution of Galileo in this field, in particular what he will write about in his book Dialogo sopra i due massimi sistemi del mondo. This text was commissioned by Pope Urban VIII around 1624 and published on the eve of his trial for heresy in 1632.

Although he was also a mathematician and almost single-handedly invented the “scientific method”, the tools available at his time did not allow him to come to a complete understanding of gravity.
For this, it would be necessary to wait for two Englishmen from the young “Royal Society” (1660): Robert Hooke (1635-1703) and Isaac Newton (1642-1727). As this conference will confirm, the second is a brilliant mathematician but whose fascination would lead him to eliminate the great contribution of the first, who was, of more humble origins, above all an extraordinary experimenter.
